The common materials and standards used in water distribution piping
The following common piping materials are used in water supply and distribution systems.
1. Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) plastic hot and cold water systems -ASTM D 2846; Schedule 40 and 80 CPVC – ASTM F 441;
A Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) made in standard thermoplastic dimension- ASTM F 442;
Chlorinated Polyvinyl chloride pipe tubing and fitting having SDR 11-CSA B137.6.
2. Brass pipe Seamless Red Brass Pipe – ASTM B 43 .
3. Chlorinated poly vinyl chloride/aluminum/chlorinated polyvinyl chloride Composite pressure (CPVC/AL/CPVC) -ASTM F 2855.
4. Seamless Copper pipe or copper-alloy pipe– ASTM B 42;
threadless, seamless and deoxidized copper pipes in straight lengths- ASTM B 302.
5. Copper or copper-alloy tubing (Type K, WK, L, WL, M or WM)- ASTM B 75; ASTM B 88;
ASTM B 251;
Welded Copper Tube -ASTM B 447
6. Cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) plastic tubing- ASTM F 876; ASTM F 877; CSA B137.5
7. Cross-linked polyethylene/aluminum/cross-linked polyethylene (PEX-AL-PEX) pipe– ASTM F 1281; ASTM F 2262; CSA B137.10
8. Cross-linked polyethylene/aluminum/high-density polyethylene (PEX-AL-HDPE)- ASTM F 1986.
9. Ductile iron pipe -AWWA C150/A21.5
Ductile iron pipe, centrifugally cast- AWWA C151/A21.51-17 ;

10. Seamless and welded black and hot dipped Galvanized steel pipe -ASTM A. 53

14. Stainless steel pipe low to moderate temperature application (unannealed Austenitic Stainless Steel Products)(Type 304/304L) ASTM A 312; ASTM A 778
